  1. You know what, Spidey? I’m not even really that sorry. This is my house and I didn’t invite you to be my roommate. You don’t pay rent, you don’t help with the chores, you’re always popping out of nowhere and scaring me … I mean, you were already pushing it by taking up residence in the garage with 100 of your closest friends and family, but the line must be drawn.

    1. I am NEVER sorry. Damn Spiders, thinking they can come with their three thousand siblings and crash at my joint. Aww HELL no!

Though I must admit, there was one spider who entered my life whom I grew rather fond of. His name was Henry, my Therapeutic Spider. He was a big creepy hairy thing who lived in the mailbox. I am absolutely terrified of spiders (yes, even Daddy Long Legs), so I forced myself to let Henry live, so that each day when I collected the mail, I had to reach in beside him. I was convinced that Henry would cure me of my phobia.

Then one day my mother walked in with the mail. I was watching TV when I heard her voice in the background:

“Oh God, there’s that creepy spider.”

      Before I could react, I heard a heart-breaking *squish*.

      RIP Henry. :(

        1. I agree Wendy, nice post Lovethebadguy. Around my house it’s the vague idea/promise that spiders are helpful that keeps me from squashing them, barely! I’m constantly vacuuming up their messy webs.

      1. Aw. Poor Henry.
One of my brothers and my uncle are deathly afraid of spiders. Sometimes I forget about their phobia until its too late. The only kinds of ‘bugs’ I’m not that fond of are the ones I have no idea what they are.

        1. You are a braver person than I.

(I was just reminded of a female comedian – whose name escapes me! – discussing the fact that she and her husband got married without checking that at least one of them was able to squish spiders. Neither was, so now whenever a spider comes in “We both just stare at… Until it becomes so uncomfortable, it leaves.” … Oh, if only!)

          1. hahahaha…. my bff and her fiancee are both scared of spiders. Whenever I visit them I am the designated spider squisher. I laugh at them every time. They aren’t too afraid of them, just enough to not go near enough to squish it.

  2. I know first hand, wrist and eye, the nasty side-effects of a venomous spider bite. Spidey was not sorry at all! Nope, she just kept spinning her web and multiplying. Then the itsy-bitsy spidey’s were after one thing…and since this is an awesome G-rated site I’m just saying this Little Miss Muffet, adopted herself a persian polydactyl named Sasha, who LOVES to hoover-eat all the spidey’s be-gone-dead-away! So when horse chestnuts fail, Sasha will prevail and we are NOT SORRY AT ALL!

  3. I too love the banner; can we be told where it’s from?
I’d also like to know what colour paint is on the wall in the spider web vacuuming photo?
I wonder as well who really dresses like that when their cleaning house?
Who was the clever one decided to spell vacuum anyway?!*
And in closing, I’d like to know who I thank for fixing the glitches…
*To whom this may concern, we thank you, sincerely! xoz

  4. Poor spidey :-(

I try to evacuate all creepy crawlies from my house in a humane manner first. Only when they are uncooperative do I vaccum them up. As I’ve grown older, I dislike killing insects more and more. Yeah, that makes me sound sappy since I know I’ve done way worse things….

    1. I can totally relate! The older I get, the worse I feel for harming anything. Just killed an ant in the kitchen over the weekend and I felt guilty, though of life, karma, and “Two Bad Ants.” Sigh. Anyway, I never kill spiders because I like them. They eat all of those other creepy crawlies that bite, infest cupboards, etc. Plus, I’m kind of proud that I’m not afraid of them at all. I’m not afraid of snakes either, but turtles, whoa, those beasts are an entirely different matter…YIKES!

    2. I prefer humane evacuation too. My sister and I are the designated spider (and other undesireable creepy crawly) relocaters of the household. The procedure consists of slapping a cup down over it (or up if it’s on the ceiling), sliding a piece of card underneath, and then the hardest stage-carefully picking the whole assembly up without making any gaps between the cup and the card through which the spider could escape. Then there’s the parade to the door consiting of the spider trap holder, possibly a co-spider relocater, our mum nervously trailing behind to make sure the spider actually goes out, and the dog nosing us, saying, “What’s that? What’ve you got? Is it food?”

As for ants, we just make the triangular finger wall.

  5. Big spider too, and even a few centipedes. Best thing since sliced bread. With the bagless, one butter and those critters are dumped outside unharmed!

    1. I have to disapprove of #207 too…because spiders eat (smaller/invisible) bugs in your house, so they shouldn’t be vacuumed! and if you do need to get rid of a spider, it’s better to take it outside………….

      1. Yes! Let’s hear it for the only useful bug in your house! If I vacuum their house, I make sure they’re not home first. Yeah, they’re peeved that they have to rebuild but they’re industrious little creatures and I’m amazed how quickly they accomplish the task. Thank you spiders for eating grosser bugs, you’re AWESOME!

  6. You know….. I haven’t seen a spider in my apartment for the longest time, but the webs keep popping up. I see the spiders outside with their big webs, but I don’t see them inside… just their webs.
I hate when they make a web across the steps on my porch and I walk into it.

  7. I never have spider webs in my apartment because one my cats likes to eat them. I don’t think she eats the spiders. She’s a weirdo. :)

    1. I use to have a dog that loved to eat ladybugs. He’s jump and chase them around and then chomp on ’em.

  8. This is one I can DEFINITELY support. I thought spiders were pretty cool, I minded my business and they minded yours. Then this summer I started working as a counselor at a summer camp, and lo and behold, one of the little beasties bit my left hand a couple days ago. Since then it’s been swollen, red, and burns and itches at the same time. The upside is I am seriously hoping I will turn into spiderman.

    1. LOL! Hey, never know, you, too, may have superhuman spidey powers! “So you’ve got that going for you, which is good.”

      1. Melodie, PLEASE READ: I don’t know how old you are or where the camp is but I must warn, these are the symptoms of the venomous spiders bite. If you are 12 or under there is an anti-venoum; if you’re older you must get an anti-biotic because after 48 hours the symptoms get FAR worse. If you google hobo or brown recluse; venomous spider bite effects you’ll see what I’m talking about. I actually know several people right here in BC. who had some SERIOUS outcomes. You must have this treated! Your best bet, at a hospital. I wish you positive results. Sincerely!

      2. Oh, I never thought of spidey powers. It’s true. The superheros who do wonderful things and make the world a happier place like Spiderman and Batman do are pretty cool. The bugs are not as cool :)

  9. This is DEFINITELY an AWESOME thing!! I clean houses for a living and I vacuum up Spider Webs almost daily!! Thanks for making my work day a little more AWESOME! :)

  10. I like spiders :). They eat fruit flies and mosquitoes and other things that fly up my nose while I’m engaged in a sedentary activity. I like to bring them home and install them in empty corners (Yes I can identify the dangerous ones and no I do not bring those home). Yeah spiders. I think spiders are an awesome thing!

  11. Totally!
Me and my boyfriend were cleanning our new house last weekend and I taught him about the vaccum cleaner. He couldn’t believe it. “This product is awesome” he said.

  12. Several spiders can protect your home from pesky invaders. Cellar spiders-the web-spinning species most common in homes-have been known to prey on black widow spiders. Some, like the spiny orb weaver and house spiders, can hunt crickets and small flying insects. Wolf spiders can help rid lawns and gardens of common pests. Even the brown recluse-the most dangerous spider to humans-can assist by eating cockroaches, silverfish and other soft-bodied insects.:
