#914 Surprise two-ply

Danger may lie withinAnyone else hate those big toilet paper wheels in the public restroom? You know the ones. They’re big, they’re plastic, and they hold massive rolls of thin, transluscent one-ply toilet paper. And they’re pretty stingy with their papery plunder, too. Yes, you have to stick your hand up there and fish around a bit to find a loose end, and then give it an even, gentle tug just so to prevent it from ripping into bits.

And hey, how about those light, hospital boxes of one-ply Kleenex? Same deal, right? Blow your nose into that stuff and you’ll find your hands turn into a slippery, sticky mess. You might even have a few tiny bits of Kleenex lingering around your nose or upper lip afterwards, too. It’s not pretty.

So that’s why it’s great when you discover some surprise, two-ply toilet paper in a public restroom or some surprise two-ply Kleenex on the counter at the doctor’s office. Yes, when it’s two-ply, you’re flying high, baby, because it comes out easy, goes down smooth, and just feels like home.

AWESOME!

  1. I am always most envious of my friends when I use their facilities and find that they buy ultra-thick, two-ply toilet paper. And here I am using my no-name-brand stuff like some kind of animal…

  2. The ONLY place I get 2-ply is at home! I haven’t really ever encountered 1-ply tissues before, thank god for that! Although half the time our classrooms never have tissues, so I have to go to the one bathroom in the school that has paper towels and use them- ugh, stiff, rough and scratchy! 1-ply toilet paper isn’t so bad at school because it comes out in sheets, but when it’s in a huge roll that you have to pull gently- even at home with 2-ply, if the roll is brand new I have to pull really gently otherwise the paper breaks off. Or the normal sized rolls that are locked to only spin so far so you have to basically unroll it by hand. They should be illegal.

  3. I actually thought of this post a few weeks ago when I had a cold. I had to make an emergency trip out to the drug store when I ran out of tissues and by that time in the evening there weren’t too many boxes left so I grabbed the only cheap store brand box I saw and headed out. It was only when I got back and ripped it open that I discovered- surprise!- not one-ply, not two-ply, but three-ply! I hadn’t even known three-ply tissues existed until then. And let me tell you, they are ideal for runny noses.

    1. Greetings! I’ve been following your blog for a while now and finally got the courage to
go ahead and give you a shout out from Dallas Tx! Just wanted to say keep up the excellent job!

        1. Omg I hate that!! We were at the grammar school in my city the other day for a Literature Day and the toilets there had like 1/2 ply toilet paper. I said to my friends, “Surely they could afford better than this with the money they charge their students!”
