#873 Finding a mix tape given to you by an old boyfriend or girlfriend

Shoebox of memories

Stashed away in shoeboxes, basements, and broom closets around the world are some of our greatest treasures.

That’s where we might find old prom photos, expired driver’s licenses, handwritten letters from faraway friends, or maybe, if we’re really lucky, one of those beautiful gems known as an old Love Tape.

Time it right

Love Tapes are simply any mix tape carefully put together by someone who like-likes you. Yes, that blurry, distant boyfriend or girlfriend probably spent hours timing songs to fit perfectly on a side of a tape, painstakingly scrawled out love notes and drawings on stickers, and maybe, if you’re lucky, even sprayed it with a bit of perfume.

Depending on your time frame, your mix tape, or mix 8-track, or mix CD may contain gems such as:

  1. Unchained Melody by The Righteous Brothers
  2. More Than Words by Extreme
  3. Everything I Do (I Do It For You) by Bryan Adams
  4. Can’t Help Falling In Love by UB40
  5. I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston
  6. I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That) by Meatloaf
  7. My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion
  8. Is This Love by Bob Marley
  9. End Of The Road by Boyz II Men
  10. You Were Meant For Me by Jewel
  11. God Only Knows by The Beach Boys
  12. Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper
  13. Eternal Flame by The Bangles

So search your heart. Search your soul. And when you find mix tapes there, you will search no more. So don’t tell me, they’re not worth looking for. You can’t tell me, they’re not worth searching for. You know it’s true. Everything mix tapes do.

They do it for you.

AWESOME!

And when you find that old mix tape, you will search no more

In addition to mix tapes, give the Gift of AWESOME this Christmas!

  1. Oh, kids these days will never know the joys of a mixed tape. I was never given one, but I made a lot for myself. I had a happy mix, sad mix, dance mix.. I had it all. I wish I could find them.

    1. Also… My green square has disappeared.
Been having problems commenting using a PC so I’m trying out my phone now and I hope it works better.

  2. Kevin Costner, Bryan Adams and Robin Hood on one post is a jolly fine mix for me!
    “Take these broken wings…”

  3. Totally agree! NOt working. It wouldn’t even let me upload a song…ME! Of all things! And I know I’m pale-faced in the winter but not this pale! I am feeling more…let me see…oh ya’ “Blue”:(

  4. I had no idea that people did that… I guess when I think about it I have playlists on my I-pod that correspond with my mood. Apparently I learned something new today!

  5. I’ve never gotten one of these before. C’est la vie. Also, my wee purple square is missing! How does one get a picture up there?

    1. Methinks that either Neil has changed some of his blog settings, or the entire thing has been tossed around by WordPress, who is currently experimenting with new styles. Either way, it has replaced the image with little Anonymous Man.

Mine has a picture (…of Voldemort) because I leave comments through my blog’s username. You’d need to at least create a Gravatar account to get a pic.

      1. Oh! OK, thanks! That actually helps a lot. I’ll see about this Gravatar account and whether I can get a picture.

        1. Elephants are one of the most gentle, loving, empathic creatures on the planet.
This your chosen avatar, Max, seems so fittingly suited to you:)

  6. I love my “love tape!” One side is country love songs, the other, ballads from the best hair bands ever! I’m proud to say I’ve managed to keep it with me for 14+ years. Long since has the guy who made it for me moved on, I’m sure to burn a love cd for his new flame!!!

  7. This has got to be the best feeling in the world. It’s like a time warp filled with warm chocolate chip cookies. So, so good.

  8. I don’t have many tapes left…they’re long gone now. The only one I’ve left is one my best friend from 30 years ago made for me. I don’t even have a player in which I can play it, but I still hang on to that tape. We haven’t seen each other in at least 15-20 years, but when I ever get to see her again, I will def. remind her of that tape! It used to be so fun to wait for the right song on the radio and to hit record just as the dj finished his annoying chatter. Come to think of tapes,I may even have an 8-track still lying around the basement somewhere…LOL!

  9. I feel like I have that mix tape. Not a mix tape with some of those songs on it, but That. Exact. Mix. Well done sir. Well done.
