  1. getting into bed all weird and then 20 mins later removing 2/3’s of the bunched up blanket from under you and having that amazing sensation of finally being comfortable and the freezing cold matress

                    1. “Knowing” someone famous.

(You know, “My cousin’s boyfriend’s, younger sister’s best friend saw Jennifer Aniston at Starbucks last week!” or “My dad’s secretary’s uncle used to play shinny with Wayne Gretzky!”)

A friend of mine met a guy who knows Neil, as in THE GUY WHO WRITES THIS BLOG. I know right?

                      AWESOME!(!!!!!)

                    2. Sliding into clean bedsheets naked, having dried them on the clothesline in the fresh air! The smell is to die for, and they’re all smooth and slickery.

                  1. Feeling bad for killing a King Snake only to later realize it was a Sidewinder. Involuntary HERO!!!!!

        1. deliberately doing that at school. My dept. chair was walking behind me. he saw me, gave me tiny smile (that’s when he barely smiles) and just went passed by me. AWESOME !!!

            1. same here! i have this weird thing were i have to step onto a flight of stairs with my left foot and end with my left foot, and more often then not i have to skip the last step. but when i can do this without skipping steps it’s really AWESOME!

      1. thats actually really bad for you and is the worst time to clean your ears…it pushes most of the wax further in.

      2. i did that and the q tip ended up sliding through my ear and into my head almost touching my brain

        1. I do it every day and so far my brain has stayed in tact. But one day the cotton bud came off the plastic stick and I had to go to the doctor to get it removed. He gave me a long lecture “Didn’t your mother tell you that you should never put anything bigger than your elbow in your ear?”
Of course she did. But who has ever put someone else’s elbow in their ear, let alone their own?
I love the feel of clean dry ears though!

      3. i came here because i was reading post secret (awesome) and it had a link to one of the blogs (also awesome)…so i read the blog and then these comments and it is so weird, because i JUST txtd this very thing to a friend today. there really is nothing more awesome than a qtip (and yes, it MUST be Qtip…) in the ear! :)

      1. Yes!! So true. You try to listen to yours in the car and watch the other car’s flasher go at the same time. So rare it makes it extra awesome!

        1. Kinda like when you would ride the school bus in the rain & watching the wipers, waiting for them to sync.

          1. that feeling you get right when you walk into your air conditioned home when its REALLY hot outside.

When you open your eyes in the morning and you can tell by the color of the light in the room that it snowed sometime during the night. Bonus if you get out of bed and its still snowing.

          2. Being tired in the back of the car and tossing your head back and forth to the rhythm of the widow wipers

          1. … when the turn signal syncs with the music beat on the radio… awesome! It’s the reason why I came back to this website, so I could post this comment. Turns out I’m not first…

      2. I just thought of this one today. Haha. It’s just as good when the turn signal/windshield wipers match the beat of the song you’re listening to.

        1. Or when the beat of the song you’re listening to is perfectly synchronized with the steps of the pedestrians walking on the street.

          1. Its even better when you are the one doing the synchronized walking to the music you are listening to.
And its even better when you see someone either on the streets, on the bus, or in their car jamming out to a song. It always makes me want to jump right in there with them.

            1. This one is for guys, but try listening to The Imperial March (Darth Vader’s theme) while walking in public. Ace!

              1. I’m a girl (with *mumble* years experience) and I do this all the time. Star Wars is awesome, and Vader’s march is badass.

      3. When the click of your wipers lines up with the tempo of a groovin’ tune. It’s like your car is rockin’ the cowbell along to it.

        1. Ah, just saw Brandon’s post saying the same thing!

Realizing I’m not the only one who really digs that is pretty awesome to know too!

      4. Another good one that happened to me today is: “when you and another person hit the ‘lock-lock’ sequence so both cars ‘BEEP’ in unison!” AWESOME! Today was the first time, I immediately thought – OH AWESOME THINGS LIST? YESSSS!

      5. hahaha! I love this one.. i always watch to see if anyone’s turn signal is synchronizing with the car i’m in :)

    1. The Cool Atmosphere in the morning when you just woke up got your pants and shirt on pour yourself a cup of coffee. Go outside walk the dog on a cool winter morning. And then the suprise you feel when you realize that the cool morning is actually Christmas.

    2. When you have to pee sooo bad, when you’ve held it as long as you can and finally go.

      Brilliant feeling.

      1. The funny thing is, I was on this website and i was holding it in because I didn’t want to get out of bed but i finally got up and while I was in the bathroom I thought the one would be perfect for this website. hah so glad someone else thought of it!

        1. I punched my face once in a nightmare…………………..then i woke up then realized it was christmas

          AWESOME!

    3. When your windshield wipers sync up with the beat of the song playing on the radio (even if its for only a little bit)

    4. Using Baby Spoons to Eat Pudding

Getting a soft creamy, pudding, and then getting that soft spoon with the rubber on it.
      Smooth + Smooth =
      AWESOME!

    5. i LOVE that feeling!haha[:
      one of the best.
i cant never sleep with socks on,but what i do is get all cozy under my blankets and then take my socks off with my feet and its just pure comfortableness[:

      1. Cyber bully mistake number one! Your username is “FUCK YOU”. Big red flag.
Cyber bully mistake number two! You use shortened words like ‘ur’.
Cyber bully mistake number three! You use profane language to tear down others for no reason at all.
Cyber bully mistake number four! You completely ruin posts for many people with no regard for others, simply for your own selfish entertainment.
All in all, folks, this is the worst type of Internet user, abusing the World Wide Web (That’s actually what the ‘www’ is) for the purpose of tearing people down, and ruining people’s days. Whatever you do, don’t become this person, don’t let this ruin your day, and don’t retaliate in similar ways to the comments themselves. In the end, you’re seriously only hurting yourself.

  2. My daughter and I experienced something ridiculously awesome this past week: chasing down the neighbourhood ice cream truck on our bikes, and then sitting curb-side to eat our spoils.
Did we care that the neighbour’s dog was barking at us out the window the whole time? No.
Did we care that our handlebars got sticky on the way home? No again.
Did we even care that the ice cream truck’s annoying song was stuck in our heads the rest of the day? Definitely not, because it only reminded us of the awesome thing we’d just experienced.

    1. Driving in town listening to music and looking over and seeing that a pedestrian is unknowingly walking to the beat of your music

          1. What makes it even better is when you had a really hard day at work, come home, have an awesome meal, take that long shower at just the right temperature without struggling with the taps, having just put on the wintersheets (stretched extra tight on the bed) and you have to squeeze yourself down into the sheets… ly there on a feather/down pillow…spooning and gently feel yourself slipping into lala land.

      1. that it one of the most awesome things in the world!! thank god somebody else thinks about these things toooo ((=

    1. Or when a cat rubs up against your freshly shaven legs! –it feels weirdly awesome because you just cut off all your little sensors and your legs feel a little numb. (Guys, you’ll just have to trust me on this. …unless, of course, you’re a swimmer, or a cyclist, …or a transvestite).

        1. As a child walking on the top layer of snow every so carefully trying not to fall through when its been really cold for weeks making you feel like jesus. A+1

          1. Amen and Awsome to that! Bonus awsome when you actually don’t fall through that top icy layer. I’ve done that and all I can say is “Yipes!!”

        2. walking on the the top crispy layer of snow with wide boots so not to fall through after its been cold outside for weeks making you feel like jesus.

    1. i was just going to submit this, and when i clicked edit find and typed in peanut butter, found it was already here! this (and my new jar of peanut butter) just made my day awesome!

    2. Or even better is making a design or writing your name in it and waiting until you hear from the next person to open the jar. It’s the start of an awesome day for you and the person to see your peanut butter masterpiece.

  3. Completely uncontrollable laugher that takes all of the energy out of you, leaving you a limp noodle of a human being.

Finishing a really good, long book.

Waking up on the beach without your pants on.

    1. “Completely uncontrollable laugher that takes all of the energy out of you, leaving you a limp noodle of a human being.”

or having your abs absolutely kill the morning after.

    2. “Completely uncontrollable laugher that takes all of the energy out of you, leaving you a limp noodle of a human being.”

Agreed. or almost as good is watching someone else in this state, and their laughing sets you off.

        1. When you’re asleep hanging off the side of the bed and your pup wakes you up with a jarring lick across the face. First terrifying, then straight up awesome.

          1. Just the smell of a puppy in general and I smell alot of them as I work for a rescue group. Nothing can explain it but it smells new.

        1. …or when you’re wearing flip flops in the sand that gets uncomfortable that when you take them off and step right into the sand its a feeling of sensation and comfort!

      1. unbelievably awesome. and fun. and hilarious if you pull some charlie chaplin moves for your friends. thanks wind

  4. NEIL:
I just thought of two awesome ideas for your blog in case you run out of ideas.

That feeling when you have really long hair and you get it cut short – washing it or brushing it – how different it feels running your hands through! (lame i know, but awesome to me)

ALSO, the feeling of how smooth your teeth are once braces get taken off – how you can’t stop feeling them with your tongue for WEEKS!

    AWESOME!
    – me

    1. I’m very excited for the feeling of teeth free of braces! And yes, I just got my hair cut from half way down my back to a bob and I totally understand where you’re coming from!

    2. omg! most definately! especially when you know that the 10 inches of hair you just had cut off are going to some little girl who has cancer.

    3. Oooomg my friend told me about the hairthing, and i wish it was true! I have dreadlocks now, and i can’t wait the feeling with a very short hair, running my fingers through it and and and!! I bet it will be awesome to me too!

  5. I love the list so far!!! Can’t wait to read more!

    Thought I would add a few…
*opening a vacuum sealed can of coffee (i hate coffee but that first whiff…mmmmmmmm)
*opening Dill Pickle chips and the glands in your cheeks tingling with anticipation
    *pop rocks
    *Thrills (the soap gum!)
*clean teeth after the dentist (expensive joy but worth it!)
*getting IDed at the bar/liquor store when you are in your 30’s, on your birthday

  6. Looking in your pantry after you’ve been grocery shopping.

    Drinking milk from the carton.

The satasfying POP of the toaster.

    1. Haha. My cat used to hiss at the dog all the time, and because she was so small her hiss sounded EXACTLY like the toaster popping up.

Another awesome thing -hugging your cats even though you know they hate it.

      1. I hug my cats all the time… one really really hates it, the other looks at me as if to say “seriously, again… “, so great though!

  7. Taking a break on a REALY long driving trip with all of your siblings in the cramped car. That feeling when you first stand up and heard the satisfying POP of your knees.

Letting farts rip in class and when someone hears playing along and telling them it was the person next to you.

Licking your fingers after eating something extrordinarily sticky like watermelon or icecream.

  8. I always enjoyed watching a fellow classmate in school get in trouble and scolded by the teacher in front of everybody.. even friends.

Nothing could make me happier or laugh more to myself then seeing the look of shame on a fellow classmate getting embarrassed and punished in front of everyone!

    AWESOME

  9. Watching things download quickly.
Drinking things straight from the bottle.
The feeling after going to the bathroom after holding it in for awhile.

  10. Having a cigarette when you really crave one.

Not feeling hungover even though you were drunk as a skunk the night before…

      1. realizing a guilty pleasure is not killing you any longer or everyone else ..AWESOME
Having the government share your concern..
        Truly Awesome

  11. Awesome is:

Winning a ridiculous 5 foot tall karate trophy.

hearing a chinese guy sing Layla by Derek and the Dominos

  12. The first time you go grocery shopping for yourself is amazingly awesome.

As is the first meal you cook in your first apartment. AMAZING.

      1. signing the lease on your first apartment and then spending the rest of the day shopping for new furniture at ikea

      1. Well you kind of can, we learned how in grade 12 calculus. Was a few years back now so I don’t quite remember, but, we all loved it because of that Chuck Norris joke “Chuck Norris can divide by zero” and we were all like “Now we can too!”

        1. “we were all like………..”
shame you didn’t learn English too….you were like what? peanut butter?

          1. Elvira you shouln’t be talking because your paragraph has errors. The s in shame should be capitalized or did you not pay attention in school? Did you even go to school?

              1. Wanna know what isnt AWESOME? Going on a website looking for small things that make our day AWESOME and running into arguements that make you forget all the small happy things. NOT AWESOME

  13. Being the first to dip into a brand new jar of peanut butter is just so darned amazing. You twist, huff, puff, and twist some more. Finally that lid gives way and “zowie!” you’re rewarded with an unspoilt miniature light brown landscape. It’s tiny but vast in its perfection. Then you disturb that perfection, claiming it as your own.

    AWESOME!

    1. I know this one is in his book– and mentioned several times already, but I agree that opening a new jar of peanut butter is awesome (unless it’s that nasty Adam’s all natural stuff that just has a layer of oil on top). In fact, they used to have this Jif (I think) commercial where there was a perfect heart shape scraped out of the top of the pristine peanut butter, and I have to admit I still do that to this day every time I open a new jar.

  14. Seeing the way God has answered a prayer.

    Hearing a baby laugh.

Taking a bath/shower, but Sunday morning ones are the best.

Looking at the yard after two months of hard work and being happy it looks pretty.

    The smell of rain.

Hugging any member of my family.

Getting my house clean and organized, it is so awesome to finally get it at that point.

Being able to crochet/handcraft something and think, ‘Wow i did a good job on that one!’. That is a one in 2o chance.

    Washing my face each morning.

            1. The smell BEFORE rain comes. That musky smell in the air when you just know it is going to be a massive storm.

Also, the smell of an Australian summer after being in Canada for winter. The beautiful salty, spicy smell of red earth and the ocean even in the middle of the city.

People who don’t talk about religion… Always awesome. I hate religion, that ruiner of harmony.

              1. ooh yeah, Australian colours when you first get off the plane

or the light when you open the fridge in the dark at 3 am

or the way the wind moves the trees at funerals

or day dreaming of knitting cat fur into a scarf

                or bouncy moss

              2. “the smell of an Australian summer” cant beat it!
The smell of the ocean and your fav sun tan cream, the warmth of the sun on your face with a small breeze in the air, the sound of friends and families enjoying the outdoors…..but best of all…..knowing you are “home”.
                AWESOME!

        1. That light ache the day after a good workout and the way your leg muscles get confused after a long bike ride or spin class.

      1. When people decide that the rude comment they are thinking, might not be the nicest thing to say. – AWESOME

        1. Yes! I L-O-V-E it when I’m being such a JERK at my thoughts and then suddenly I realize it! I can push those bad thoughts away and wish the person well. I feel bad about myself, so I try to be generous, as a kind of “punishment”. But it also makes me realize I should/CAN be a better person. I change a little (for better), every time it happens.

    1. Love all of the above. Well done Litecandle.
Getting my house clean and organised is especially awesome as I only do it once in a blue moon!

  15. Best moments –
    1. driving in the car when 3 of your fav songs come on one right after the other.
    2. when you find a quarter in the return slot on an arcade game and/or a free song left on a jukebox
    3. when you’re in a zone – literally – in a sport you love, where time slows down and you can hear nothing
    4. when you get to the point of a dream right before you wake up
    5. when you have enough to leave a 30 percent tip or higher and/or when you’re a waiter and you get tipped that much
    6. when kids look in your eyes and say they love you

    1. Agree with those esp being in the Zone, looking back on a play you just did instinctively and thinking “Wow! Did I really just do that?”
      Great feeling….

      1. YES!!!! and getting the ball were you wanted! or even better… the ball doesn’t get the way you wanted but it does a better move.

  16. There’s a vital difference between taking your shoes off and entering a trampoline/bouncy castle, and keeping your shoes on. When you are shoed, you have more grippiness and your bounces are less wasted as a result. It is awesome.

When you eat a pizza with a lot of cheese on, sometimes you can feel the cheese going down your throat because it is so stringy, and it tantalises your throat.

One other thing I like is when you hit someone in jest, and for about two or three seconds after you can feel a surge of electric blood power run around your body and you feel strong and powerful. Even though t’were in jest.

      1. YES! School supply shopping for SURE. Not much is better than walking through the store and seeing shiny binders and sticky note displays. Then the feeling of satisfaction when you find exactly what you need, getting to pick the colors, and thinking “This is mine now. I know exactly what I’m using it for.” And then secretly getting things like post-its, highlighters, and rubber band balls that you don’t need for school, but you’re gonna want them.

          1. So true about the buying school supplies, even when you don’t need them, but fresh pens and binders and notebooks especially are awesome! Other things:

Taking a shower and hopping into bed with fresh pajamas and fresh sheets, so cozy :) And reading in bed til you can’t keep your eyes open so you fall asleep instantly, looove that.

Roadtrips by yourself, with only your favourite music (or your ipod), and singing at the top of your lungs like you’re a superstar

Making things more organized, lame or not I love when I accomplish this

Cat’s sitting on your lap voluntarily and purring :)

Paying off the credit card bill (it’ll be awesome when it happens!) lol

            1. I’m a little late, but what the hell, I love all of these awesome things: buying school supplies, new pens & pencils, taking showers and hopping into bed, reading til you fall asleep–I do it ALL the time–road trips, alone and singing at the top of your lungs, making things more organized, cats sitting on you lap–no questions asked!!–and paying off credit card bills–ohhhh, that will be a sweet day……..

    1. Generally the stationary aisle in a supermarket. Can’t be skipped even if you don’t need anything.
I live across the road from Officeworks (a massive stationary supermarket place)

    1. Oh my gosh, especially when it’s winter and you are in your pajamas FREEZING. Then you take your clothes out and put them on and get the 20 seconds of pure warmth.

      1. Or better, lying on the couch watching t.v. and your mom throws the whole warm dryer load on top of you; mmmm…toasty!

    2. When my mother put my socks in the dryer on cold school mornings before she woke me up and once she put them on my cold little feet she would rub my feet one at a time with both of her hands like Mr. Miagi (sp) from Karate Kid. She is and will always be the BEST!!!!!

  17. shopping for office supplies

nailing a parallel parking on the first try

winning a stuffed animal from the claw game that costs 50 cents

overly elaborate team introductions at sporting events, esp when the lights go out

  18. knowing the exact directions to your destination, but pretending you don’t know and let your other friends lead whoever is driving on the wildest driving experience ever

    1. Just like secretly knowing the answer to a question no matter where it is and allowing someone expound on the incorrect response for minutes while inwardly grinning because you feel awesome. No need to rub it in or anything, just knowing you could have done better is good enough.

  19. Being at a large public event (sports game, graduation, concert, etc) and being next to that really obnoxious guy, the ones that deafens you when he yells or whistles.
    AWESOME!

  20. running into someone you haven’t seen in a long time when you actually look good.

old lady jewelry for a quarter at garage sales.

when you notice strangers on the sidewalk smile at something they overheard your kid say.

    awesome!

    1. Smiling at something funny that someone says on the street. Also awesome.

Reading through the comments of this blog and being reminded of tons of awesome things. Awesome

    2. Once there was a garage sale by my house…

      here’s the catch…

      it was fancy glass tableware…

      FOR FREE!!!!!!!

      TOTTALLY AWESOME!

    3. Omg, yes! Running into someone you haven’t seen in a while when you know you actually look good! Awesome, I love it when that happens!

  21. *Cracking your back after you have been hunched over for hours.
*The smell nag champa leaves behind after its done burning.
*Finding a treasure at a yardsale.
*Finding all the potato chips in the bag that are folded over.
*Laying in a field of soft grass with the wind blowing over your body.

    AWESOME.

    1. *Finding all the potato chips in the bag that are folded over.

YES!!! Especially when you are the first one to get into a new bag, and dig through it until you get ALL the folded ones!

      AWESOME!!

      1. Haha…this comment totally reminded me of a stupid, juvenile, awesome tradition and notion in my family when i was a kid: you are entitled to make a wish every time you eat a folded-over chip, we called them ‘Wish Chips’ and literally wished on them as if they were something significant and mystical. Childlike wonderment and blind belief in things completely illogical = AWESOME.

        1. I did this too, I was in the car with my two childhood BFF’s and they explained the whole wish chip thing to me. Thanks for reminding me!

    1. Houses with secret doors/rooms are fascinating…

or when you visit distant relatives for the first time in many years and feel the urge to run around their house just so you can bring back old memories.

  22. 24 oz. Soda bottles are awesome.

    Stashing candy is awesome.

    Coupons are awesome.

    Faking sickness is awesome.

    Anyways i like the blog.

              1. Hey doofus, ‘Eskimo’ is a derogatory term, they are Inuit, First Nations or Aboriginals. Get some respect.

  23. booking movie tickets online, and turning up just in time to see a full theater, except for the perfect seats you booked earlier

    AWESOME!

  24. 1. Eating really weird foods for the first time [fried frog legs! fried oreos!] and finding out that they don’t taste that bad

    2. When you’re having an argument with someone about something small, like the capital of a certain country, and…BOOYAH! YOU WERE RIGHT!

    3. Waking up like normal as if you were about to go to school or work, then realizing that it’s Saturday/Sunday/your day off

    4. Going through the ‘My Pictures’ folder on a computer when you haven’t done so in a long time

    5. Digging out an old yearbook

    6. Seeing rainbows through your neighbor’s sprinkler

    7. When you’re washing the car, and it’s hose time

      1. Seeing rainbows – anytime, anywhere
in the spray of a wave
connected earth to earth on the plains
from prisms – colour so-o-o intense!
        in soap bubbles
a double rainbow over the sea
in the bevel of stained glass

        1. I actually saw a double rainbow earlier this year! And everyone around me just stopped and stared, just in awe that mother nature could create something so extraordinary. That was pretty awesome!

    1. Waking up for school / work only to realize it’s Saturday….the amazing feeling of shutting your eyes and returning to a deep slumber…..that is a most awesome event!!
