#991 Really, really old Tupperware

Watch your retinasFound in dusty kitchen cupboards and dishwasher top-shelves across this wide, great land, really, really old Tupperware is as handy today as it was twenty, thirty, forty years ago. That famous Tupperware “burping seal” still holds strong, and you can bet your boombox that banana bread will stay moist, those chopped celery sticks crisp, that leftover lasagna slice fresh. Yes, all is well in this tight vacuum-sealed Chamber of Taste-Preservation.

Really, really old Tupperware is mostly found in three colors: Stovetop Green, Pylon Orange, or The Core Of The Sun Yellow (pictured). Optional features include novelty 1950s floral patterns or deep tomato stains, from that time someone put leftover chili in there and shoved it in the back of the freezer for two years.

One thing I enjoy doing is thinking about all the different kinds of food a particular piece of Tupperware has tupperwared shut over the years. Apparently Tupperware has been around since 1946, so we’re talking about the full tastebud timeline — from lard burgers, creamed corn casseroles, and Jello salads to hemp brownies, parsley soup, and tofu cookies to pizza pockets, Hungry Man leftovers, and astronaut ice-cream pellets.

Really, really old Tupperware has been there, sealed that, and lived to tell the tale. It’s a throwback to the simpler life, when things like airtight seals meant something. Something real. Something honest.

Something worth believing in.

AWESOME!

  1. I had an ex-large blue acrylic salad bowl with clear lid, mistakenly took huge salad to work for all. Bowl disappeared and I have not been able to relace it. I have tried different sales people but to no avail. I looooved that bowl…HELP! Thanks, Dot

    1. Hi Dorothy. I know exactly what you’re talking about. It was called the Watercolor Salad/Punch Bowl. Unfortunately, we haven’t had it for a long time, although it’s been back in different colors over the years.

We do have a new acrylic set now, called “Ice Prisms”. The largest bowl isn’t as big, but it is really pretty. It looks like crystal. We do have some big bowls, which are great for large salads, even though they’re not as pretty for serving. They’re called “Thatsa Bowl” (32 cups) and “Thatsa Mega Bowl” (42 cups). They’re the same size around as the old Fix ‘N Mix bowl—-it was yellow back in the ’80s. Green before that, and white before that!

  2. I have several broken pieces of tupperware but do not know how to get them replaced. I use tupperware daily and still feel like TW is a valuable product even after 45 years of using it.

  3. I am just reading your interesting comments about TW. I have lots of them. The only problem we have here is that it is very difficult to change our damaged boxes and more often broken lids. The agents are reluctant to take them. Is that normal? As far as I know when presenting the items the agents always say it is lifetime products. I find it unfair that they want only to sell new products and no customer care for defective ones.

    1. I don’t know where you live, but the lifetime guarantee (on most products) applies in all countries where Tupperware is sold. If you have a broken container or seal, your consultant MUST take care of it for you. It costs him/her nothing. If you’re having a problem with a consultant, find the local “Distributor” or Director, and pursue it that way. You can find Tupperware consultants in your country on the company website: http://www.tupperware.com. Good luck!

  4. Can anyone tell me if my grandma’s tupperware cassarole/pot no. 1545 can be used in a gas oven? I really don’t want to destroy it;

    1. Does it say that it is oven-proof? All of the “Ultra 21” products say “safe for use in microwave and conventional ovens” on the bottom of each piece. If yours says that, then you can safely use it in any gas or electric oven, up to 350 degrees. But don’t broil in it!

  5. I’m looking for a white spatula the #on the back is3513A-3 Its white and made of a plastic like material. I haven’t seen it for years Its my favorite and I’d love to find another one or even two.
    Thank you.

    1. Hi Betsy. That’s the Cookie Lifter. I agree, it is wonderful! However, we don’t have it in the catalog at this time. It does reappear from time to time. If you’d like me to add you to my email list, so you can get special offers, just send me your info. afich@comcast.net I can also add you to my list of people looking for specific products.

  6. Growing up we had the large yellow bowl, its such a weird mustard color. Whenever one of us kids was sick, out came the yellow bowl by the couch “just in case”. That bowl is as comforting and familiar to me during sickness as Vicks vapor rub and chicken noodle soup.

  7. I have a small pale yellow container with a divider in it. It is not very deep. The number on the bottom is 813-3. Does anyone know the use for this container?

  8. I just started selling Tupperware. One of te reasons that I wanted to do Tupperware is because I have a bowl that is over 30 years old and I still love it, but I lost the lid. Then I discover that Tupperware will replace any broken, chipped or cracked Tupperware as long as it is not melted. Another thing I learned is to not cook my things in the microware on high. What you do is hit the time button then put the time in, the next step is to hit the power button and the hit 5 and start. This puts it on 50% power. I never knew how to do this. Just wanted to share. Also, If you want to order Tupperware my website is: http://my2.tupperware.com/debbieball I would so appreciate you ordering from me as I am without my regular job now and take care of my 75 year old mom and dad.

  9. Can someone tell me where I can find a vintage tupperwear gum holder. The lid pops off etc. My mom had her purse stolen and that’s the only item she really wanted back b/c it was from my deceased grandmother.
    e-mail: lisadh79@aol.com
    Thanks!

  10. Contact Tupperware (Google)!!! If they still make the item, they will replace it!!! I had a huge amount of Tupperware that were less than perfect for whatever reason. Best friend was a dealer and took them all (about 3 large trash bags full) into the warehouse and they replaced EVERYTHING…FOR FREE!!! Most were replaced with new colors. I was amazed at the results. Expected no more than half to be replaced and the rest would be a loss. That’s ok, too….wasn’t using them anyway since they were damaged. Planned to have them keep anything they couldn’t replace. Imagine my shock when my friend brought in so many brand new pieces!!! Granted, this hhas been 20 + years ago, but betting they still stand behind their product!!! Tupperware ROCKS!!!

    1. I also pick up pieces I never owned and always wanted at thrift stores and garage sales!!!

  11. Therefore, make sure you set the system up correctly.
You can go to your nearest pet store and ask them if it
is okay to take pictures of their iguana for your own personal keepsake.

Like many other animals, iguanas can be shipped by air.

  20. Im impressed, I need to say. Really not often do I encounter a blog thats both educative and entertaining, and let me inform you, you have got hit the nail on the head. Your concept is outstanding; the difficulty is something that not enough individuals are speaking intelligently about. I am very comfortable that I stumbled across this in my search for something referring to this.

  21. Somebody necessarily help to make critically articles I would state. That is the first time I frequented your website page and up to now? I surprised with the analysis you made to create this particular put up incredible. Great task!

  22. I’ve finally found the brown and cream hourglass salt and peppershakers that my boyfriends was looking for (his parents had a set), and now I am wondering how old these are? I guess 70s, but I can’t find them on the internet at all. 831-47 and 831-52 with lids 833-47 and 833-48.

  23. Aw, this wwas an exceptionally good post. Spending some time and actual effort
to produce a very good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate a lot and don’t manage to
    get anything done.

    1. :( Wow! I wonder if Neil is pointing out that people started to order missing pieces and such from eachother here in this post? Whatever it is, who would’ve known Tupperware was so popular amoung so many?!*
Since word press hasn’t let me comment in my name for some time now, I’ve really been feeling the loss. Now this notice. So sad to hear but totallly respect. Missing everyone before, NOW, I’ll miss you all evermore:(((

  25. Yes, I’ve got older Tupperware than your picture shows, and use it daily- even putting it in dishwasher! It’s the best purchase I’ve ever made when it comes to food storage. Glad the company is still “alive”.

  26. Will not put in any eccentric everlasting features you can’t change should you
are not certain about them anymore otherwise you
wish too offer during the long term. One and only thing to think abut here is that lots of the internet web hosting
e – Commerce solutions from your business hosting business may be not what you
anticipated. I have spent years trying to find a way to work from
    home and I finally succeeded.

  27. I tend not to comment, but I browsed some responses on this page #991 Really,
really old Tupperware | 1000 Awesome Things. I actually do have 2 questions for you if it’s allright.
Is it only me or do a few of these comments look like they
are left by brain dead visitors? :-P And, if you are writing on
other social sites, I would like to keep up with you.

Would you list of every one of your social networking pages like your twitter feed,
    Facebook page or linkedin profile?

  28. I’m looking for 1970’s-1982 TW catalogs to buy. Any of you retired TW reps have any left over you would like to sell? I promise to take good care of them as they will be saved in my cedar chest.
    Thanks
    Susan

  29. Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year
old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put
the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside
and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back!
LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone!

  30. That¹s why I recommend lead generation companies.
SEO training Institute in Noida and other parts of Delhi teaches all about the
link building etc. Article marketing is a type of advertising
in which businesses write short articles related to their respective industry.

  31. Hi, i believe that i saw you visited my website thus i got here

  33. The Tupperware pictured are newer models, probably 70s. The original and classic Tupperware were transparent.
