#903 Picking scabs

It's so bad it's good

There’s just something so tempting about picking your scabs.

Maybe it’s because they sort of brown, harden, and crisp up, and end up looking like small, bumpy countries on the side of a topographical map. You just can’t help but play God, cracking up the coastline, slowly twisting the island around, or just ripping the whole thing off in one painful shot.

I mean sure, it might sting a bit. But check out that brand new skin underneath. All flaky and pink, ready and waiting for whatever this great big world has to offer. Even if it offers another round of rollerskating without kneepads on a gravel driveway.

Yes, picking scabs is a sweet guilty release — like twisting your tongue into your loose baby teeth, popping big zits in the center of your cheeks, or dropping hot farts underneath the sheets.

AWESOME!

  1. Every time I think of the urge to pick scabs (guilty as hell!), I think of that footage we’ve all seen of monkeys grooming each other and picking bits of dried skin out of each other’s fur.

I think that’s why we do it.

And if you’re not meant to pick scabs, then how come they itch? :P

  2. I have tons of scars from picking scabs, but I still do it. It’s worth it! Well mostly. I did rip some stitches out after a surgery and that didn’t turn out pretty at all.

  3. woo! I picked one just now, it’s pink and looks like it’s now about to bleed!! lmao! XD They never leave scars for me.

  4. My scab got caught on my clothes today, so i had to rip it all off. Yep, It did kinda hurt! :]

  5. I always had scabs on my knees and couldn’t resist picking them. And they didn’t leave scars…yay!!

  6. I normally pick scabs but they don’t scar. Has anyone tried eating them they’re really nice ;)

  7. It’s amazing when you pick a scab when it’s ripe. It comes off easy without leaving any pockmarks or red skin.

  8. I love to pick scabs, too! My bf likes to peel my skin when I get a sunburn. He especially likes when he gets it to come off in a big sheet of skin. It feels good, too.

I love, love, love your blog, Neil. Thank you!

  9. My name’s Joon and I’m a pickaholic. Then I got fake fingernails. They dont pick worth a damn! Too thick I think. And the peeling sunburn??? HEAVEN!!!!!!

  11. EWWWWWW! Picking scabs are totally nasty and gross as a kid I would just leave em’ be even if they were irritating because that is just gross.

  12. Picking scabs…ouch. But yes, satisfying. I used to yank out my loose teeth…by myself, while reading in bed. Weird, eh? But I don’t have many scabs anymore…because I’m an awesome ninja. ;)

  13. huge piece of writing. I just came across your web site and wanted to let you know that I have certainly enjoyed browsing your blogs. At any rate I’m going to be following your feed and I hope you’re posting again soon.

  14. I do agree with all of the ideas you have presented in your post. They’re very convincing and will certainly work. Still, the posts are too short for novices. Could you please extend them a bit from next time? Thanks for the post.

  15. ,i can relate to this because i fell of my bike and i got a scab on my leg. it was so hard not to pick it

  16. Howdy! This is my first visit to your blog! We are a collection of volunteers and starting a new project in a community in the same niche. Your blog provided us valuable information to work on. You have done a marvellous job!

  17. PEOPLE

Check out iScab. Years of socialization lead us to pick our scabs in private shame and hide our cherished scab jars from friends and loved ones (What?! You DO have a scab jar don’t you?). Today, with the marvels or technology we can once again pick our scabs with pride. We can fill our scab jars to the brim. And we can do it wherever we are, whenever we want. Scab picking has entered the 21st century!

  19. Haha yess!! I used to do this all the time but I haven’t gotten one in a while. Peeling anything is awesome isn’t it? Did anyone ever used to put glue on their hands and wait for it to dry then peel it off later? Now that’s awesome!

  20. I do this all the time, lately ive been getting worried they will get infected, im 27 years old, going through a lot of stress, I have 3 kids and tons of anxiety, my gf wont work, wont help around the house , she always seems to be hiding something, today i have been very sad and thinking about suicide. What should I do, I feel like a freak and like I have no one.

  21. I always pick my scabs even if my dad says it makes my legs and arms look ugly. He says I need to look pretty for whoever I date in the future but I don’t give a damn! After all, I got from my mom anyway. :)

  22. Here are some things you will learn by reading real reviews. In India, many drivers find the colour of their own vehicle using astrology. Then all you have to do is compare the monthly premiums.
