#831 When someone names their kid after you

Takes approximately four years to read

Well, they might not be named after you specifically. Maybe they just happen to have the same name. But then again, who knows really? I mean, all we know for sure is that your names match and you were born first.

AWESOME!

  1. “You Inspired our first childs name”
    “Really?”
“His full name is Arrogant Bastard….. we just call him Ari.”
    “Um thanks……”

  2. A sign of recognition is always nice.

  3. There’s already enough Jennifer’s in the world. I discourage people from calling their kids Jennifer.

Is it just my computer or is there no CSS on this site?

Oh, sure, that’s pretty nice, but have you ever had an adult name themselves after your kid? My brother-in-law (same surname as my child) married a woman with the same first name as our child. She changed her surname upon marriage, essentially naming herself after our child. She may be older, but our kid has had the name longer, so is still “the first [name]“.

lol, I think that’s kind of cute. I don’t think she intentionally tried to name herself after your child- though I’m sure your child is wonderful- I think she just wanted to take her husband’s name. :)

George Foreman liked this idea so much that he named all 5 of his sons George. According to Wikipedia, they are more commonly known by their nicknames: “Monk,” “Red,” “Joe,” “Big Wheel,” and “Little George”.

I’m going to name my kids “Awesome Thing”, and then I’m going to have 1,000 of them. Booyah!

  7. My sister in law just named her daughter the same name as my cat. Weird.

  8. jdurley

Harry Hoody, I hope your cat was not named “Mr. Noodles.” That would be awkward.

  9. Awesome indeed! :D Don’t think I’ll get to live it though. :P

  10. adchick

Susan…after Susan B Anthony. At least thats what my dad told me how I got my name. You don’t find a lot of Susan’s out there. Not Sue…Susan!

  11. roxanne

My best friend since kindergarten named his younger daughter after me…her name is Roksana and they call her Roxy for short…

  12. a prefer to look a normal name o common name to invent one like Lkotopker

  13. liddle bum

My friend had a puppy and named it after me. My name is Skyler and the puppy’s name was Skyler Daisy.

  14. Hey, just found your site on google. You have some sweet posts ;)

Names can be cool. I have a co-worker with a Jack Russell Terrier. The dog is named Russell, since my co-worker’s daughter, Jackie (Jack) is the ‘owner’. Thus it is Jack’s Russell. Now they have a new dog named Stover. Russell, Stover. Hmmm…wonder where that came from. Sweet.

haha, we inherited a 10 year old Jack Russell from our next door neighbour’s friends… they had little kids, and so named him Jack. Me and my brother always joke that his middle name is Russel :)

  16. natalie

    My nieces name is Natalia….Awesome!!!

  17. dfgdsge

    this is really good

  18. Chandler

It’s very rare that I find someone else with the same name as me, but it’s pretty awesome when that happens!

  19. Anna

i actually don’t like it that much to be honest,
because then when people call your name or mention the name,
you don’t know who they mean.

  22. yeah, I completely agree with you, I have a nephew is named after me.

When I worked in E.C.E., it was so cute when little ones would say, “Hey, I was at YOUR restaurant last night, but you weren’t there!”

    • Wendy was created for a little neighbor friend by David Barrie, who wrote Peter Pan; he acalled her his friendy-Wendy; means fair and bless-ed friend. Popular in the 60′s, although I haven’t had a friend name their child Wendy, I’m hearing it’s coming around again.

  24. Robyn

My cousin’s youngest daughter’s middle name is the same as mine, she jokes that I’m her pretend wee sister (she’s the youngest in her family and I’m an only child and we’re really close) so that was really nice, and I’m godmother to her oldest daughter so I feel so lucky for that. My mum gave me the middle name Robyn after a character in V (the one that gets pregnant with an alien) so apparently she had high hopes for me :S

Nobody will ever name their kid Lorelei, and pronounce it Laura-Lee. :(
