Does it count as being Rick Roll’d if you actually enjoy the result?

Yes.

!!
I’ve done this too many times. When other people sing my favorite songs, I have this urge to correct them when they make a mistake without realizing it.
Frustrating. Also happens with favorite movies and TV shows.

Haha, that’s so right!

I do this all the time. i get a song i like and I play it until everyone around me begs me to stop.
A related awesome thing for me is finding a copy of a long lost old favorite again. I recently found copies of dozens of old disc from my college era. I’ve been in nostalgia heaven for a month now.

Have been doing this with my Song of the Week for the last 2 days. As soon as I wake up it’s in my head.
August 18, 2009 at 2:21 am
This is so funny.
I was going to quickly check what new Awesome Thing was posted today as I clicked “replay” on this one song that I was currently obsessed with, when I saw this.
Too perfect, too awesome. :)

Hee, this is one of my favourites. I do this ALL THE TIME.
August 18, 2009 at 2:48 am
This should be in the top ten most awesome things.
August 18, 2009 at 3:16 am
I have done this to songs to the point where I have listened to one over 500 times in three days.
I’m not kidding.
My friends are generally not pleased when this happens. =D

Guilty as charged.

current obsession: Mayday Parade “Jamie All Over”

I do this all the time on my iPod…especially when I’m working out. My latest has been either Waking Up In Vegas by Katy Perry or Heartless by the new American Idol, Kris.
August 18, 2009 at 9:25 am
LOVE doing this, even though it drives some people crazy. I will listen to a song a million times before I tire of it! :)

Two are “Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite” from Sgt. Pepper, and “Mean Mr. Mustard” from Abbey Road.

Lately I’ve been trying to back off on listening to the new, awesome songs I come across. I’ve killed so many of my favorite songs by listening to them again and again. Now I try to ration out the ‘coolness’ by keeping the listen-count low.

As people have mentioned, its awesome when you do it for yourself. Less awesome when you’re a victim of it.
I had a roommate in college who only owned 1 CD. It was Blink 182’s Enema of the State. He listened to the entire CD, on repeat, for an ENTIRE year. It was really ridiculous. Trust me that as far as torture goes, this is worse than waterboarding.

Remember back in the days of cassette tapes, it was an art:…song ends…hit rewind… hit play again at the exact right second. Awesome!

This is quite possibly my favorite thing on the list so far. I am guilty of doing this every day. I have a favorite song of the day or the hour or the week and I play it over and over until I get sick of it. I do the same thing with albums sometimes.

Not new, but recently remembered, and constantly on repeat:

I do it all the time
August 18, 2009 at 6:37 pm
Right now it’s Marcy Playgrounds “I Must Have Been Dreaming”.
August 19, 2009 at 12:03 am
Ha! Been doing that all day long.
August 19, 2009 at 12:25 am
Also known as “ruining a great song by burning it out,” which is profoundly un-awesome.
August 19, 2009 at 10:40 pm
Neil, how did you decide to spell “favorite” in the proper American English vs. French Canadian? :)
August 20, 2009 at 11:14 pm
Put in Pearl Jam’s Yield (MASSIVE PJ fan here!!) and alternated between ‘Given To Fly’ & ‘In Hiding’ (my current favorite song) for about 1/2 an hour!
…did that with ‘The Real Me’ by The Who and DMB’s ‘Tripping Billies’ a few days ago, actually!
man, I do this all the time!

you feel like you’ve known the song forever.

Meh, I’m not much a 1 song over and over type. I prefer to listen to a whole album repeatedly :D. Of course, by the end, I have whiplash, but it’s worth it.
November 17, 2009 at 12:48 pm
I just found this site and I already love it. I seriously just did this with “Rocky Raccoon”.
November 18, 2009 at 1:28 am

When I was a kid, I got 20 dollars a month for allowance, and every month I would buy a new CD. The moment when I got into the car and took last month’s CD out of my walkman, put on my headphones and let the new music flow was the highlight of the month! That CD would stay in the player until another 20 bucks came around, by which time every track was almost irritatingly etched into my brain…
But on the way to the store on that special day, there was only one song to play. Knowing I was going to be transfixed by something new, and I probably wouldn’t be hearing my favorite track from this month’s CD for a long time, my parents were treated to a loud rendition of that one wonderful song — for the whole 30 minute ride to the store. And it was awesome!

I loooove to do this! But.. I’m trying to learn when to stop before I get tired of it. :-/ It’s so hard to do.
