#620 Singing in the car on the way home from the concert

Stamped hands and plastic wristbands cover the sweaty crowd as  lights flick on at the end of the show. Crowds bump and grind to the bathrooms as eyes adjust and ears pop. Minutes later you pile into the car with your friends and buckle up for a slow, traffic-jammy trip out of the lot, down the highway, and home to bed.

Killing an hour on your way home from a concert is a piece of cake, though. Just roll down those windows, pump those fists, honk that horn, and get ready to scrape that scratchy throat.

Because folks, it’s time for the loud, screechy sing-a-long version of Tonight’s Greatest Hits.

  2. When you’re stuck in the parking lot after the concert (because you refuse to be one of THOSE people who leaves before the encore to avoid the traffic) and you blare the music for all around you to enjoy resulting in a mass sing-along… Now THAT’S awesome!!

  3. I love singing the songs you’re about to hear on the way TO the concert! I’m usually asleep on the way home.

      1. My husband and I have concert rules. One of them is that you can listen to the band as much as you’d like on the way TO the concert. But once you get in the car after the concert, it’s sacrilegious to listen to the band’s tunes. (There is ONE exception: When the band didn’t play that one song you REALLY wanted to hear; but then you may listen to that – and only that – one song.)

        Among other concert rules…never wear (to the concert) the t-shirt of the band you’re going to see.

        1. I’m with Biz on the tshirt thing..
          it makes you look like a ‘desperate, i’ll do anything to meet them’ superfan.

          And with the music side, i listen to the band + supports (if i like them) as much i can until the gig, then if i’m feeling up to listening to even more, i listen to them on the way home too just to wind down the night :)

    2. I’m with Chad on this one… When you listen to them on CD (or radio), they’ve been so edited that sometimes they don’t even sound like themselves! If you give yourself a little breathing room between recorded and concert, they sound so much better live! And then you rock out on the way home… :)

  6. I love this one! This summer, my daughter and I accidently got caught in the post-concert parking lot crush from the Killers concert. We weren’t even at the concert, but we still enjoyed the car-concert afterwards!

    1. If there was 1000AnnoyingThings, getting stuck in the traffic from an event that just got out would be number one in my book. At least you were stuck with good tunes and happy people.

      1. Yeah, we were thinking, “D’oh!” until the car in front of us started blasting our favourite tune, and then we just went with it!

  10. I love that! Even if you have almost no voice after so much shouting. I think there has been no concert we haven’t done that. Even after Queen + Paul Rodgers concert, which was held at a stadium which is one block from my house, my brother and I came back walking and singing Bohemian Rhapsody.

  14. Takes me back to concerts as a teen with my best friend Holly. With our ears still ringing and our voices hoarse, we’d sing along to the cassettes/8-tracks in the hatchback on the way home. Maybe I shouldn’t mention that we were singing Rick Springfield? LOL!

    Beforehand, though, is just good foreplay!

  20. Just left The Head And The Heart show in Seattle, WA. Sang the songs on the bus ride home.

  21. When I was at We Day with my school in September, Down With Webster and K’naan preformed so on the bus ride back, it was a huge car concert
    AWESOME!

  23. Still, the last best concert and probably will be, ” until we meet again”…
    Bruce Springsteen, “The Rising tour”, “Magic” tour, “Working on a Dream”; he puts onTHE BEST SHOW, writes THE BEST SONGS IN THE WORLD and is just remarkably and heart throbbingly awesome.
    And btw, if I’ve neglected to tell you and fyi, he did actually write “Born To Run”, for moi!
    And rocking on the way home and anytime is a real spirit booster.
