#446 When your plugged up nostril just suddenly opens up with no warning

Nose, what’s your deal?

We’ve been cursing you for the past hour for your snotty head-plugging ways. Breathing wasn’t happening and we were left mouth-gasping for air every few seconds to bypass your thick bulletproof wall of headglue. And you remember when we tried blowing our brains into some tissues to clear your salty facejam, right? All we got for our troubles was wet Kleenex bits stuck to our upper lip and a pair of eyes popping from the pressure.

So we gave up, we gave in, we gave it our best shot. We figured you won the war so we slumped our shoulders and walked away with our noses red like Rudolph and our jaws dropped like Big Moose.

But then after wrestling down our defenses you decided to suddenly just … open up without warning! Big winds rushed and gushed through our lungs and the weight of the world was lifted. We leaned back and sniffed in deep breaths, fresh air, and a whole new life.

We don’t know why, we don’t know how, and we don’t care. Nose, thanks for the random drips, thanks for the sweet relief, and thanks for the big giant breath of

AWESOME!

  1. Between my allergies in the summer, and my frequent colds in the winter, I have to say that this has got to be one of the most awesome feelings ever.

  2. this always happens to me when im sick & my nose is all blocked up..
then i go lay down on my side & the nostril thats up, suddenly unblocks itself & the other stays blocked..

then turn over & it switches sides!!

      1. Holy crap, this is the most awesome feeling ever.Speaking of a plugged up nose, I have a bad one right now

  3. !!!!!!!!!!!!! Its like you are watching me or something!!!!!!!
A couple weeks ago I had a cold, or it was sinuses, or allergies, I don’t know…I don’t really care. I could not breathe out of my nose and when I can’t it kills me. Yeah, I had a sore throat, headaches, and all that other fun stuff, but the stuffy nose is what bugged me the most. And I couldn’t take any kind of decongestant….ya know….cuz I’m pregnant and all. So I just had to suffer. I got some breathe right strips that you put on your nose to open it up….but those didn’t help much. I lost sleep, I was grouchy…..but one day it was like a miracle. I could finally breathe!!!!

    1. I must comment on this today…..
Last night was horrible. I was fine until about 2 am then all of a sudden I couldn’t breathe and I couldn’t go back to sleep. I blew my nose, I used some breathe right strips, I fussed and cussed. About an hour and a half later I could feel my nostril begin to open up and I thought of this post. It was really really really awesome!!

  4. Good lord!

This is a likely candidate to be my new favorite post.

This is easily one of my favorite feelings ever. So good, so good, so good….

    ………..sweeeeeet caroliiiinne….

      1. …I feel fine…”
(ya’ i know, but i sang it this way for 4o years!)

  5. Or, how about when your sinuses are clogged and your ears suddenly popped? It’s like world’s volume just got turned up.

    1. me tooo!!!!!!
i’ve definitely got the “summer cold” going on, and i can’t wait for that sweet moment when i can breathe again! it will be awesome :)

  6. Sometimes I just take a deep breath knowing my nose is not clogged, and try to remember the feeling for later when my nose IS clogged.

  7. Sadly, I’ve never experienced this. My sinuses are just too mean. What I do love though is when your ears pop when you don’t even realize they needed to!

  8. Yes. Awesome! One doesn’t realize how awesome this is until we know the unawesomeness of a stuffed nose. I like when awesome things depend upon their opposite.

  9. Great post–love the bodily functions that your editors want to delete!
Also, if anyone hasn’t checked out the first photo credit, there is a fairly awesome poem attached to the beautiful photo.

  10. Okay, it took me a second read to see where the Archie Digest came in… Surely there was (or should be) a story where Betty or Veronica couldn’t go to the school dance, because of a nasty cold, so the other lady gladly stepped in to accompany Archie. Now if a suddenly cleared nostril came into play– man, that would add to the intrigue and suspense, would you say?

  11. One of the most wondrous feelings. Ever. Having just recently recovered from a bad cold, when this happened it was totally and utterly
    AWESOME!

  12. I think that’s awesome, especially if you’ve been trying to sleep for ages n you know that if u don’t fall asleep soon you won’t be able to wake up in a couple of yours.
