#397 Eating the first freshly baked cookie from the oven even though it’s way too hot

It burns.

Chocolate chips drip down your fingertips as that softly-crumbling cookie melts into a hot puddle of steamy goodness in the middle of your mouth. Gasp for air, pop your eyes, and suck in some cool breaths as you try to chew without touching that red-hot cookie lava.

Part of what makes these cookies delicious is that you can’t buy them at the store. Nope, cellophane stacks of paper-wrapped packs got nothing on the hot crumbly oozing across the burning pan. Remember, you sweated up a storm in the kitchen for these — cracking eggs, melting butter, and beating the wet floury mixture into a sticky brown pulp.

Now is not the time to wait.

Now is the time to enjoy it.

AWESOME!

  1. And pizza, you can’t forget the first bite of a too-hot pizza.

When it sears the roof of your mouth and you have the “roof of mouth seared skin flap” irritating the heck out of you for the rest of the meal. Then you KNOW it’s good.

I wish the delivery driver could get it here faster. I always miss that when it’s delivered.

    1. Yes, they’re definitely best that way!

And if you don’t walk away with at least a second degree tongue burn, you didn’t do it right. :)

  2. That was an absolutely PERFECT description!

It’s so good to finally partake in the fruits of your labor. It’s also fun when you happen to be somewhere when someone ELSE is baking cookies. All the yum, none of the work. ;)

    1. I don’t tend to bake cookies at Christmas. Hot oven in middle of summer… no thanks! Northern Hemisphere folks are lucky.

  7. The one thing I love best about my school dining hall is that there is one dining hall worker who is always baking fresh cookies during lunch and dinner. If you get there right in time, she gives them to you right out of the oven. They are FANTASTIC. Thank you Ms Tina!!

  8. OOOOOOOO :D

This reminds me of the time when, apparently, a fan kissed Elvis’ car which stood in the sun for while, burnt her lips and Elvis’ ma who was watching (well apparently again) told the fan Elvis’ lips are far hotter…

I don’t even remember where I read this stuff, but… Burn me, oh, please, burn me. LOL

  10. One of my favourite hobies is cooking and baking.
I think I have this from my mother. When I was little I had to wait before I could eat a cookie. My mother said I had to wait until they were cold. But she already eat the first one… when it came right out of the oven.
And now, I’m also baking cookies! The smell of cookies that is floating in the kitchen, mmh!
Looking trough the glass of the oven to see them raise…
And then eating the first cookie when it comes right of the oven and the cookie is still warm…
    I understand now my mother!
