#363 Correctly guessing the secret ingredient

Sniffing bean dips, chewing brownies, inspecting casseroles for clues, you’re swishing and swallowing while channeling all your body’s powers towards your mouth. Make sure to close your eyes, sniff bunny sniffs, and slowly move that chewed-up paste around your tongue so it touches different tastebuds.

No, it doesn’t matter if it’s something sweet in the cheese dip or something spicy in the squares. All that matters is that when you get it you put your hand up, bow your head, and smile softly before yelling it out.

“Cinnamon!”

AWESOME!

  1. I am seriously the worse person to guess tastes. I don’t know if I’m maybe missing those key taste buds or what, but I just can’t do it. I won’t be able to taste that cinnamon or the nutmeg. I won’t know you put fresh parsley in there or a pinch of garlic. (Now if there’s a lot of garlic, that’s a different story). I can’t tell the difference between the three kinds of nuts you put in these cookies, I won’t even be able to tell you what kind of nuts they are.
Its different when I cook though. I love to cook and I love to experiment with different recipes in the kitchen and mix em up to make them my own. Then, I can taste the difference between things and I know when I have the right secret ingredient or the right amount. I don’t kow…its weird I guess.

  2. When I read the title, the first thing I thought of was the TV show “Iron Chef America” because they always have a secret ingredient. My husband and I watch the show and will call out what we thing the secret ingredient will be, but we’ve never been right! Once we were watching and just as the Chairman was about to reveal the ingredient, my husband yells, “WATER!” Too funny!!

  3. Hahaha … last night I watched a DVRed episode of Will & Grace where Karen tries to guess the secret ingredient in Will’s mom’s martinis. She guesses weird stuff like blood and milk and finally Will says that it’s cherry Sucrets.

I think I should start practicing my skills as an ingredient-guesser.

  4. At work for one of the oreo crusts we do, it needs an 1/8th tsp of cinnamon, and I swear it is the only thing I can smell and taste in it! Makes me crazy. Everyone thinks I’m nuts cause they can’t taste or smell it.

  5. When you can’t figure out if that secret ingredient is a chick pea or a garbanzo bean, you can just put your hand up, bow your head, and smile softly before yelling it out.

    “Synonyms!”

    ;)
