#146 When you ask the people in front of you if they’re in line and they’re not

I went to the airport yesterday.

Obviously, I got jacked on parking and my little pickup turned into a twelve-dollar fine for swerving around the maze-like lot for twenty minutes. On my way out I stopped at the Pay For Parking machines and, sure nuff, all of them were packed with people.

I tapped my foot like Sonic The Hedgehog for a minute before noticing a woman spoon-feeding her baby in a stroller near one of the machines. I moseyed on up and softly said, “Sorry ma’am, are you… using this?” to which she replied “Oh, no, not yet, go ahead.”

Who feeds their baby in front of a parking machine?

Well maybe I’ll never know the answer to that.

But I’m so glad I asked asked.

Because it put me on the fast track.

AWESOME!

  1. That pixelated little hedgehog is giving me a rather sinister glare…

Let this be also a lesson in…ye not be afraid to ever ask a question!
As Scott Peck said, the answer will always yield “The Road Less Travelled”, and other wonderful sorts of things… gauranteed!

this reminds me of a quote a highschool teacher once taught me.

‘Better to ask a question and be a fool for 5 minutes, then not ask a question & be a fool forever’

Another Scott Peck…”Until you value yourself, you won’t value your time. Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it.”
Great to value yourself and your time…ask and be jetted to where you want to be!
    Awesome:)

If you want help – ask for it!

I think it’s time for me to re-read “The Road Less Traveled”. Thanks for mentioning it Wendy and Black Bear!!

    Good stuff.

Reminds me of age old adage of a closed mouth cannot be fed.

    No pun intended.

  5. This reminds me of the feeling you get when the long queue of people isn’t using one of the ATMs because they all presume it’s broken because no one is using it. So I stroll straight up to it and it’s working just fine. Awesome!

  6. Extra points for mentioning Sonic!
Yes, this is awesome. The line looks super long, but its really not. This happens a lot in public bathrooms, especially during the holiday season when the stores are packed. If I am just waiting for a friend or my daughter or something, I make it a point to tell people I’m not in line.

I like the image of Sonic moseying on up to mother and child, softly saying, “Sorry ma’am……..AND how DID you come to choose THIS particular setting for your child’s dining experience?”
I’ve never been a fan of cliff hanger’s!

Also awesome is recognizing the location of a photo someone else took and reliving the memories.
That line is definitely the line I stood in at the Edinburgh Castle!

When baby gotta eat, baby gotta eat! Baby don’t care if she’s in front of a parking pass machine or wherever. She just gotta be fed!

Hope that clears it up a little for you.

  10. Lines blow, but this post sure doesn’t!

  11. true that!!! I’ve always believed in the old add-age ” Its better to ask questions and be thought a fool for a minute . than to never ask and remain a fool forever!!!!

you wrote “asked” twice in the 3rd to last line.

    …AWESOME.
