#850 Absolute perfect silence

Nothing.

No rain.

No birds.

No wind.

No waves.

No buzzing.

No beeping.

No blinking.

No haze.

When there’s no office hum.

And no kitchen clatter.

When there are no idling cars.

And no distant chatter.

When there’s absolute, perfect silence and really nothing else.

When your ears strain for sound, and just meet silence itself.

Well, that beautiful rare moment is so sweet.

And so perfectly

AWESOME!

  1. You know whats’s weird? That first silence after you’ve been somewhere really loud. You can sorta still hear the loudness humming in your ears as the perfect silence slowly overcomes it…

When you have this horrible fight with your friend and she calls you 3 months later and tell you , “Where the hell were you “??? I have been waiting to tell you like a million things and you catch up back with her from where you left :)

  3. Silence in my house usually means a kid is doing something they are not supposed to do and I must go check on them immediately.

  4. We had an anechoic chamber at my school (acoustic engineering), which is a room constructed to be as dead as possible (for testing purposes). You don’t know silence until you’ve stepped in one of these rooms. It’s absolutely, completely, utterly, quiet. It’s pretty surreal standing in it. Some people find it relaxing, others find it uncomfortable, and most people can’t stay in there that long. If you have an opportunity to check one out, do it! It’s really cool.

  5. One time I was at a church sleepover, and we had a 10 o clock service. afterwards we could stay in there for a while and I did stay for 10 minutes it was so nice and quiet, couldn’t hear a peep. it was pitch black, except for the candles we each had. I realized how much noise we all hear each second, and that in pure silence you can think about a lot of things, and it’s really relaxing. If you ever have a chance to do something like this, choose wisely.
It may seem boring, but it’s like heaven, with darkness and light together. Every second you get to think it’s like everything just goes blank and you can’t worry about anything.
    So I’m with the article,
    AWESOME!

Also, anyone else highlight the while part to find the secret message?

  12. This comment could not have been come at a more poignant time, as yesterday my grandmother passed away. Having heard her last breaths for the previous days, then nothing, stillness, peace… absolute silence.
Thank you as always, Neil, for your timely and timeless posts.

I've got something awesome to add...
