#813 Museum gift shops

Portable cultureBecause let’s face it: the best stuff in the joint is generally silkscreened on an XXL T-shirt, printed on a novelty oversized pencil, or reduced to a tiny plastic key chain. Monet coasters and Van Gogh posters stuff shelves by the front door so you can pop in and out real quick and say you saw the good stuff.

AWESOME!

  1. I’ve never really been to a museum. I’ve been to art galleries, which are kind of LIKE museums…

Unfortunately, they didn’t have any Robin Williams wax sculptures coming to life or nuthin’.

  2. I love museums and I love the gift shops there. Everything is overpriced, but very interesting and neat. I mostly stick to candy, but when I do splurge, I have to get something awesome like that picture up there of the Mona Lisa keychain.

    1. I am such a sucker for the museum gift shop, too! Yeah, the stuff is overpriced, but those little trinkets sure do add some beauty to our daily lives. Me, I have the Van Gogh framed poster: totally awesome!

      1. I’m big on getting post cards from the museum too. I have a bunch from when I went to DC. I also did buy one of those giant pencils.

  3. I liked getting tiny toy dinosaurs at the museum gift shop when I was a kid. I loved dinosaurs, and still do. Jurassic Park kind of spooked me though.

  4. I think Awesome should start a museum. I’d be first in line for the Awesome t-shirt and the complete teeny tiny book form in it’s entirety, same as the teeny tiny bibles that are sold at some.
IMAGINE, if you will, people PLEASE!

  5. never been to mueseum, but i think gift shops are expensive no matter where you go. stick to the generic candy my friends!!! wendy lets meet up with Neil and make a deal with ‘im and start makin some CASH
