Not too many things that aren’t soda sound like soda when they’re opened. But tennis balls do, and that’s part of their beauty. You just snap back that tab, hear that pshhhhh sound, and then catch a whiff of those vacuum sealed, Korean-factory packed, hot rubbery plastic fumes. Tennis anyone?

I have a memory of being at a tennis court when I was a child. At my young age, this was all incredibly boring, but I remember becoming super excited because I found a can of Pringles. I’m all like “Oh, boy, Pringles! Once I pop, I can’t stop!”
I’m sure by now you’ve guessed that I opened the Pringles can and found tennis balls. Who the hell uses a Pringles can to store balls?! Getting my hopes up all over nothin’.
AW. I’d be upset too if I was expecting Pringles and there was tennis balls instead.

(get it:) While I’m not a big fan of the caustic new, I do “LOVE” the game and so you don’t roll onto your back and cut off your air while sleeping, a tennis ball in a t-shirt is awesome too:)
I’ve never played tennis. Never even attempted it. I’d like to, though. One of these days. So, I’ve never smelled a tennis ball straight out of the container. I’ve seen them in the stores and after reading this post the first time, I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve wanted to crack one of those open just to take a wiff.
I will share this with you though….
One of my favorite smells is clean diapers straight out of the package. Every time I open the box and tear open the plastic that seals in the smell, I always take a big wiff before storing them in our diaper container.
I don’t play tennis, but we’ve bought tennis balls before for our dog. New tennis ball surely smell awesome!
Actually – I think Penn tennis balls are made in the US…..
However, once you open the can, the performance clock on these balls has started ticking! Time to use them RIGHT NOW, because they will never be as bouncy and pressurized as they are right now.
No better incentive to go out and get your tennis on!
There’s just something about those tennis balls. I have no idea why they smell the way they do, but they just smell really good. I need to start playing more tennis. If only for the tennis balls.
Can you describe this smell? Compare it to something for me. As a non-tennis ball sniffer when they are fresh out of the can, I’m curious. I’m very tempted just to buy some for this reason.
I think it’s a little like a new car.
And also kinda maybe sorta like rubber. For some reason the smell always makes me think of hardware stores. It’s a difficult smell to describe.

I bought and opened a tube of tennis balls and got that same great smell and as an added bonus there was a KIA car in the bottom of the tube. I figure a factory worker must have parked his car too close to the tube filler,

Without any doubts, if we rank this 1000 awsome things, that one would be on top ten! Its simply undescrible that smell. There is no pringles, no soda, anything better than hear that psshhhhh sound coming from the tennis ball pack. When i used to play tennis twice a week and to open new packs weekly my life was better than nowdays.
