#691 When you flip to a radio station just as a song you love is starting

you have to check every oneI’m a non-stop twiddler.

Weaving through traffic, speeding down the ramps, cruising through the city, I’ve got one hand on the wheel and the other tapping through the radio dials.

Sure, I swing by for traffic and weather, but then I’m off — checking if the host is back on my main station, cruising by the backups to see what’s playing, or even stopping in for a couple innings of the ball game.

Once in a while I end up on a station I don’t visit very often just as the opening notes are kicking in for one of my old favorites. As the drum kicks and guitar strums jolt my memory back and scratch my brain stem just the right way, I smile and settle in for a few minutes of head-bopping bliss on the drive home.

AWESOME!

  1. This happened to me the other day, but it was doubly as good. It was two-for-Tuesday, and I got to hear back-to-back hits by an old favourite.

PS – There is a typo in the post (“…the the backups”)

  2. During my first year of university, a bunch of us were hanging out in someone’s room listening to the radio, and one person said, “Oh, they should play “Wild Thing” and no sooner did the words excape her lips, than the song started playing. It was almost creepy! It was not a common song at the time (the old Trogs version).

  3. Ah yes, there’s no feeling like hearing Master of Puppets (because they won’t play any of my other favorites on the radio… too unpopular or heavy) starting on the rock station.

  4. This totally just happened to me!! It was a song I hadn’t heard in forever so i was super excited to hear it and it was the entire song :3

  5. This happened to me last night!! Only it was TRIPLE AWESOME because THREE songs were on that were awesome, right in a row. First thing I heard was “Whip It” by Willow Smith (haha) then “Animal” by Neon Trees, then “Alejandro” by Gaga!! It was an amazing 10 minutes. :)

  6. This is the story of my life! I’m always flipping channels but it is so exciting when you find a great song just starting!

  7. Love this, you are automatically transported to another time in your life …..

  8. True story, this happens at least once a week for me with, “Born to Run”, by Bruce Springsteen. I am certain he has a window into my soul and he DID really write this song for me, we just haven’t met yet! Not in person anyway.
