#365 Getting dressed out of the dryer or laundry basket

Hands up if you’ve ever been a bachelor.

People, if you’ve been there you know the lazy-boned joy of sleeping in a bed half-covered in clothes, eating breakfast over the sink to avoid using one of your three plates, and getting dressed straight outta the dryer or laundry basket.

Yeah, you know how it goes: Alarm clock buzzes and you’re suddenly grog-sliding around your cramped apartment as a Bedhead Nude.  Next it’s time to pop open the dryer door or eyeball the assorted clump of clean clothes in a basket and start fishing through your wrinkly clothes for a wrinkly wardrobe.

Balled-up underwear, twisted T-shirts, and crumpled jeans that are still a bit wet fit you jusssssst fine and before you know it you’re looking hot to trot.

Now just make sure when you pull off this classic move you take a second to nod in the mirror and smile slowly while congratulating yourself on saving some valuable time. Ironing shirts, rolling up socks, folding underwear?

No thanks.

We’d rather fill our days with an extra five minutes of

AWESOME!

Plunging your hand in the basket and picking out 2 socks that “feel” the same colour? Been there! AWESOME!

I JUST talked about this last week! Well, I Tweeted about it, but whatever. My dryer definitely serves an unofficial double-duty as a dresser. I don’t even go to my drawers/closet half the time, I just wander through the kitchen to the laundry closet. I’m glad to hear that it’s considered AWESOME and not just … lame. Thanks for the lifestyle validation! ;)

This technique is also frequently employed by grad students. You can tell which days I had to be the TA for a class by the degree of wrinkled my outfit is.

  4. I do this all the time! Yay for laziness!

  5. Josh

How about when you head over as the dryer goes ‘ding’ and put on a toasty pair of socks. Awesome!

Plus, in the winter it’s the best thing, because they’re still all toasty-warm! :)
    AWESOME!

  9. Love, love, love pulling on a warm sweater from the dryer.

    Love clothes from the dryer!

Completely missed the last couple days as I’ve been down with stomach flu which means I missed out on Thanksgiving turkey dinner and the trimmings. :( So, for me, awesome will be when I’m feeling better again and can eat something besides crackers and jello.

  11. This and also wrapping yourself in freshly laundered sheets and pillow cases. And. . . snowflake photography. Just thought I’d mention that. Here’s the first picture of the first snow in my town: http://livewithflair.blogspot.com/2010/11/snowflake-photography.html

  12. This reminds me far too much of having to live out of luggage. )=

  13. I hate folding clothes. I don’t mind doing the laundry, but folding it is just boring. I currently have the whites still in the dryer due to my laziness. As the week goes by, we will get our socks and whatnot out of the dryer…until I break down and fold em or until its time to do laundry again and I need the dryer.

  14. “The lazy-boned joy of sleeping on a bed full of clothes” <- this is SO PERFECT! I love that feeling, somehow. It makes the bed more comfy. More MINE. It is almost certainly going to happen when I return from my semester abroad and have to spend days preparing all my clothing to move back to campus…

  15. Oh, definitely awesome. This is one of the things I miss about university! Just grabbing my laundry from the dryer and putting on an outfit straight from there. Now that I’m older, all of my clothes seem to require ironing once they’ve been washed. :(

  17. I’ve been doing this for the past month. If somethings very wrinkly, I just stick in a damp washcloth and run the dryer again—steam magic!

I’m female and have been married for 6 years and we still get dressed out of the dryer or laundry basket on a fairly regular basis. Of course, I’m also a grad student, so maybe that explains it. :)
