Weaving through traffic, speeding down the ramps, cruising through the city, I’ve got one hand on the wheel and the other tapping through the radio dials.
Sure, I swing by for traffic and weather, but then I’m off — checking if the host is back on my main station, cruising by the backups to see what’s playing, or even stopping in for a couple innings of the ball game.
Once in a while I end up on a station I don’t visit very often just as the opening notes are kicking in for one of my old favorites. As the drum kicks and guitar strums jolt my memory back and scratch my brain stem just the right way, I smile and settle in for a few minutes of head-bopping bliss on the drive home.
AWESOME!

love it! :D
Oh, this is awesome. Although I must deduct a few points by not referencing the entry of parking just as a song ends.
This is great if you happen to get lucky.
YES! That’s so, so awesome!
I had a lot of opportunities to do this during my 6hr round trip to Boston yesterday. It truly was AWESOME!
This happened to me the other day, but it was doubly as good. It was two-for-Tuesday, and I got to hear back-to-back hits by an old favourite.
PS – There is a typo in the post (“…the the backups”)
I agree. With 99% of radio being garbage, it is nice to have a happy accident that is a song you love. Nice post.
During my first year of university, a bunch of us were hanging out in someone’s room listening to the radio, and one person said, “Oh, they should play “Wild Thing” and no sooner did the words excape her lips, than the song started playing. It was almost creepy! It was not a common song at the time (the old Trogs version).
what’s radio? oh.. you mean NPR? Sorry i rock the ipod for the tunes and NPR for the news. thats about it. :) But i can remember way back when when that tape was stuck and i had to tune into WABB103.9.

AWESOME + 1 if it’s a song where the very first thing is a kickass guitar riff.
I love that feeling.
I hope this happen to me everyday!! Nice.
couldn’t agree more
soooo true! happiness it is!
Ah yes, there’s no feeling like hearing Master of Puppets (because they won’t play any of my other favorites on the radio… too unpopular or heavy) starting on the rock station.
This totally just happened to me!! It was a song I hadn’t heard in forever so i was super excited to hear it and it was the entire song :3
most recently, No Son of Mine by Genesis
This happened to me last night!! Only it was TRIPLE AWESOME because THREE songs were on that were awesome, right in a row. First thing I heard was “Whip It” by Willow Smith (haha) then “Animal” by Neon Trees, then “Alejandro” by Gaga!! It was an amazing 10 minutes. :)
Ehi! Now we wanna know which song you caught!
This is the story of my life! I’m always flipping channels but it is so exciting when you find a great song just starting!
Love this, you are automatically transported to another time in your life …..
True story, this happens at least once a week for me with, “Born to Run”, by Bruce Springsteen. I am certain he has a window into my soul and he DID really write this song for me, we just haven’t met yet! Not in person anyway.
*And “HE gaurds my dreams and visions”…
just like 1000awesomethings…
CROSS MY HEART!
awesome…I just love when this happens to me…it happens rarely
