It’s late, it’s dark, it’s quiet.
You’re tossing and turning, wrapped tightly in a mummy’s tomb of crumpled sheets and flat pillows, while your bed buddy blissfully slumbers on. Maybe you try laying perfectly still, flipping the pillow, or taking deep breaths timed to Subconscious Sam’s snoring beside you.
You might be frustrated, you might be tired, you might be ready to pack it in and scream — but sometimes, once in a while, it’s at these perfect moments when the person laying next to you starts laughing in their sleep. And what a bizarre and hilarious sight that is because it’s like — what’s so funny?
I mean sure, we’re used to laughing at things we see in our waking life. Your roommate drops a hammer on their toe, crazy Uncle Lou starts dancing at a wedding, sure. We get those things. But when somebody’s laughing in their sleep it’s a different kind of funny because it’s the most inside of inside jokes. You aren’t in on it and frankly, they aren’t either.
So whether it’s baby in the crib, the guy next to you in the tent, or your girlfriend wedged beside you on the futon, there’s something just so hilarious when you see them laugh in their sleep and try to imagine what’s running through their head.
AWESOME!

Wait, wait, wait, hold on, last question: do you ever try to influence their dreams by whispering little things in their ear and stuff?
Me neither.
AWESOME!
I’ve been told that I’ve done this. I couldn’t remember what was so funny, unfortunately, but it must’ve been pretty awesome…
Of course I try to influence their dreams. I think we all do this. Never been successful yet. I’ll keep trying.
My son laughs in his sleep a lot. He also talks in his sleep!
My favourite are babies and children. SO good to know they are having sweet dreams! Such a sacred thing that should definately read, “Do not disturb!”
“Frankly”, though, I’ve gotta’ say, my laughter has woken me up a few times and I’ve remembered the dream so well, am in on it! A great feeling I can carry all day long and even draw on time and again! Thanks for reminding me:)
I’ve never seen anyone laugh in their sleep before. Though I have heard people talk in their sleep. I’ve heard people say stuff like “It’s a spaceship!” and “Pancakes!”. I once even heard my dad speak German.
A “pancakes” dream would probably be quite nice…
I’m certain there’s a short story there…
Be funny if your dad didn’t know German but can only speak it in his dreams
He can speak some German, but he’s not fluent or anything.
My boyfriend will sometimes laugh in his sleep. And I of course take great pleasure in egging him on and trying to get him to say stuff or do other things while sleeping.
I asked him if he remembered why he was laughing but he either didn’t remember or wouldn’t tell me.
oh my gosh! awesome whispering idea!! soooo gonna do it the next sleepover chalet. muahahha.
I’ve never seen anyone else laugh in their sleep, but I’ve woken myself up laughing. :)
First off.. that baby is adorable!!! I love that picture. It made me smile.
My son laughed in his sleep a lot when he was a baby. Now he yells for me in his sleep and tells me no. I used to love holding him while he slept and I’d just stare at him and he’d smile and laugh in his sleep and I’d smile and laugh right back at him.
I laugh in my sleep all the time and wake myself up. I can only remember one of the dreams though… I was riding an ostrich and 2 of my friends were also riding ostriches and it was just a damn good time… That was it pretty much.
Waking up laughing is the best feeling ever my whole day is great when it happens.
I sleep laugh quite often & just woke myself up today by laughing.. sometimes I remember what made me laugh, sometimes I don’t. I would love to see what it looked like though! :)
My brother used to talk in his sleep when we were kids. He would even get up & walk around & talk, all while sleeping. I used to talk back to him & influence the conversation. That was hilarious! My Mom would get in on it too! :P One time he got up, walked to the kitchen & peed in the garbage can while still asleep. However, even as an adult he still talks in his sleep a bit when he comes to visit me :)
I LAUGH IN MY SLEEP I DID NOT HAVE A DREAM OR NOTHING THE NEXT DAY MY SIS TELLS ME YOU LAUGH TO HARD
