Talk about a win-win-win-win.

• If you’re already done! Brother, you just earned some breathing room. Sit back and smile as everyone sweats it up next week and pat your own back for being on top of your game. If you feel like it you can make improvements and hand in Version 2.0 of Your Masterpiece. Or you can simply make improvements to the amount of dancing cat videos you’ve watched online lately. Your choice.

• If you’re nowhere close! Then this is for you! Yes, you were drowning in deadlines when this one thankfully got moved so now you finally catch your breath and get organized. Take a deep breath and catch up to yourself.

• If you’re the teacher! Congratulations! You just enabled your own procrastination. Forget spending the weekend reading a pile of book reports or grading science labs. Nope — now’s the time to clean out the fridge, spend a day on the couch, and maybe even finally finish that Solitaire game that’s been taunting you. Watch out for falling cards.

• If you’re the deadline! Why, you don’t mind at all either. This could be due to your lack of consciousness.

So listen up, teachers and bosses of the world: When you extend those deadlines we’re loving you lots. Life’s too short to stress out all the time so give us a break and we promise to pay you back with full-face smiles, cracking high fives, and great big screams of

AWESOME!

    But seriously – this is what I need right now (an extended deadline, I mean). I have an assignment to hand in tomorrow and still have so much to do. Argh!!!

  9. I love the shirt quote idea. Every school should do that.

    I’m a procrastinator, I admit it, so when dealines are pushed back a few days (or even hours sometimes) it allows me to breathe and not rush around so much.

  11. I just got a deadline extended this week on a big paper. It was great because I hadn’t started yet. So awesome!!

    1. Yes! I love everything about Colin’s story. I keep thinking about how great it would be to walk around all day reading happy and inspirational t-shirts! What a lift!

    otherwise i can’t imagine there’s anything worse than being responsible and doing things AS they are assigned only to find out that the rest of the people who procrastinated are now getting a pass and being rewarded.

    just so we’re clear, i’ve never been the type to have something done on time so this one is totally awesome!! for my life :)

  18. This happened to me last week in my english class. It was AWESOME! since I never procrastinate and this is the first project of the school year I’ve procrastinated on so I was so stressed, but it was only for one day but it still gave me an extra night to catch all of the random mistakes I fixed and to improve everything.

  24. I remember when our English teacher gave us an extension on three big assignments at once in grade 10. Triple Awesome!!!

    Us IB kids are the best at getting deadlines extended. We all start complaining about all the other assignments, tests, and homework we have and our teachers usually take sympathy on us. If, however, the deadline is determined by the IB Overlords, you may as well spit at Pluto.
