#744 That smooth feeling on your teeth after you get your braces off

bracesPicture a loud, clanging factory with assembly lines zig-zagging all over the place, steam bursting out of pipes, and slick oil spills laying on cold, concrete floors. Then add blaring sirens, honking forklifts, and scraggly guys in cargo shorts and workboots trudging by with brooms now and then.

That chaotic jungle of a factory is sort of like the inside of my mouth. Yeah, it’s sad to admit folks, but I’ve got one messy mouthhole.

See, I’ve got a gap between my two front teeth. I had it filled it with white plastic so it’s invisible, but I still know it’s there. I remember sucking milkshakes and soup in through that Tooth Canal when I grew up and the memories haunt me still. Add to that a handful of black and white fillings dotting my molars like a checkerboard and a dangerous crossbite that wears down my pointy teeth, requiring pleasant maintenance fillings every couple of years. And let’s not forget that my bottom teeth are jumbled and cracked together like a rickety picket fence after a big blustery wind storm.

My bottom teethMost of my friends did the braces thing when they were younger and today they walk around town with confidence, sass, and perfectly straight teeth. After putting up with twisted-tight wires for a few years, they finally got them peeled off and joined the Perfect Pearls club with a punch.

And though I’ve never experienced it first hand, they tell me that slimy-smooth, new mouth feeling they got when the clamps came off can only be described with one big, all-caps word.

I’m just going to have to trust them on this one.

AWESOME!

    1. WOW, this is great awesome Cheryl! SO much more awesome than being the last car that never made it onto the ferry, when you’re with someone who can’t in turn just go with the flow and enjoy the gorgeous sea side sights, people playing on the beach; fish and chips with salt water in the air! You know, awesome’s everywhere!!!
*Another awesome: In the Kootenay’s of B.C., there are many ferries and they have this courtesy to let motorcycles on first! When I used to ride a motorcylcle it was pretty awesome to be let on first every time, alright:)

  1. I’ve never had braces, but I can still appreciate smooth teeth. I love that just brushed feeling.
My daughter might have to have braces, I’ll have to make sure I show her this if she does, after they come off.

  2. Yup, it’s like the feeling after you get your teeth cleaned at the dentist, only a million times smoother and more awesome! It’s especially great if you had headgear…LOL! Glad there aren’t any pics around to attest to just how stupid one looks in that contraption!

  3. I never had braces, but I remember how wonderful the fist kiss was when my boyfriend had his off!
And three of four of our children had braces. This was an awesome the day they had them removed, however; it hasn’t been a happily ever after~ the expense was enough of a problem but the aftermath has not been pleasant for any of them either! Everyone of them have problems now and none of them saw the same orthodontist either so can’t say “bad one.”! One has terrible overlaps where she never did, another had to have surgeory from the gum recision the braces caused and all 3 suffer from nerve pain, sensitivity, horrible jaw pain and head aches. It’s a real shame. Many doctors, osteopaths, chiropractors and pediatricians now strongly advise people wait until adulthood, when fully developed and often the teeth will naturally move into place, be perfectly fine and not even require braces!
….it’s a prime example of, if only we knew then what we do today!
    * Three cheers for natural smiles!!! +D

  4. The last picture totally reminded me of the days of prank calling. One was to call a Wing, out of the phone book and when they answered, you’d say, “So sorry, I must’ve ‘winged’ the wrong number!” and then we’d laugh our silly heads off!
